Through its Directorate General for Overseas Cooperation and Development (DG DEVCO), the European Commission contributes notably to certain initiatives and tasks, such as UNFPA materials, the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Programme from the Abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, the UNICEF-UNFPA Global Programme to Accelerate Action to End Child wedding, the international Programme to avoid Son choice and Gender-biased Intercourse Selection, along with to UNFPA nation programmes in all areas.

The newest European Consensus on developing, used in June 2017, aligns the European Union’s development policy aided by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On the basis of the European Union’s dedication to individual legal rights, its development priorities and objectives uphold freedom from physical physical violence for females and girls, with unique focus on genital that is female; child and forced marriage; gender-based and sexual violence; intimate and reproductive health and liberties, including family members preparation; and training.

From this history, the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to remove physical violence against ladies and girls premiered through the UN General Assembly in September 2017.
